Last Friday, November 7th, also Mom's birthday, was my Dad's 10th year of serving as Deacon at the Catholic Church in Marlow so Sunday we had a semi-surprise celebration during and after Mass. The 4th degree Knights of Columbus guys were there in there dress to lead the precession in and out of church. Father gave a nice "Thank you" to dad during mass and also blessed him and my Mom. My sister-in-laws and me secretly wrote a little poem using the letters in dads name and then also found a nice poem thanking mom for everything they do for us and the church. We had told mom that we were going to say something for Dad but she didn't know that we added the part for her. Then the kids in the RE program entertained by singing, "This Little Light of Mine" for Dad and Mom. After mass the knights and the High School kids served breakfast to everyone. We had a slide show playing with pictures from when Dad was ordained and his first Mass celebrated. After breakfast we had a presentation from the president of the parish council, Kenny, to Dad and Mom. The church purchased them semi-matching watches...and his brothers and sisters gave him the face of Jesus carved out of Holy Land wood...very beautiful. My little brother and sister-in-law made the cake.....it look very similar to his cake after he was ordained....looked like a bible. It was a very nice church service and reception afterwards. Dad had a few cousins, nieces and sisters that came to the event. Afterwards the whole family got together and took pictures while we were all dressed up.
