What are you giving up?

Yesterday started Lent. Yesterday was the first day of giving up or starting something for the 40 days of Lent. We do not eat meat on Fridays during Lent...but we also give up something for the entire 40 days.

I gave up talking on my cell phone while driving.

Kenny gave up meat everyday.

Jared gave up candy.

Jacob gave up pizza.

We also decided to give up something as a family and this year we decided to give up going out to eat.

Everything everyone gave up this year will indeed be a sacrifice. It will remind us everyday what Jesus went through...his suffering....and remind us to be Thankful.

When Kenny first asked the boys what they were giving up yesterday morning Jared said he was giving up his daddy. Jared told me that he would have candy and he would give up sleeping, riding his 4 wheeler and playing outside. Not sure how well the not sleeping for 40 days will work. Jacob said chocolate milk(which he doesn't drink anyway). Jared loves candy..he probably has a piece every day after school....and Jacob and pizza well everyone knows how much he loves pizza. He had it twice a day the whole week we were at Disney world. He would eat it for every meal everyday if we would let him. Kenny and no meat will be hard for him because that is pretty much all he eats....and me and my cell phone...well it has needed to be given up a long time....I usually get on the phone when I get in the car and don't get off until I get home. Eating out is something we do at least 1 or 2 times a week and this includes stopping to get a drink or snack from the gas station too....no more tea in the morning. We can and will do it because this is nothing compared to what Jesus went through for us.
